Guide
Instagram without reels
Instagram doesn't let you turn off reels. The Reels tab is fixed, reels autoplay in the feed, and they show up as suggested content. Zen Social removes all of it.
Instagram without reels looks like a feed you can actually finish
What Instagram lets you do
Almost nothing. You can tap "Not interested" on individual reels, but there's no way to turn off the Reels tab, stop reels from appearing in your feed, or prevent autoplay. Instagram is built around short video now.
What to remove
- Reels tab — gone from the bottom navigation, replaced with the Zen Social icon.
- Inline reels — reel containers in the feed are removed before they render.
- Suggested reels — algorithmic reel suggestions are blocked.
- Video autoplay — stopped on the home feed (still works in stories).
On top of that, Zen Social also blurs suggested posts from accounts you don't follow and removes ads.
What stays
Messages, stories, posts from people you follow, your profile, posting — everything else works normally. You just don't see reels.
FAQ
Is it possible to use Instagram without reels?+
Yes, but not through Instagram’s built-in settings. Zen Social filters reels out before they render, so you can keep using Instagram without the short-video loop dominating the experience.
What still works if I use Instagram without reels?+
Messages, stories, profiles, and posts from people you follow still work normally. The goal is to keep useful Instagram functions while cutting the most compulsive parts.
Is Instagram without reels better for focus?+
Usually yes. Reels are one of the fastest ways to turn a quick check-in into a long session, so removing them makes intentional use much easier.
Does Zen Social also reduce suggested posts and ads?+
Yes. Zen Social is not only a reels blocker. It can also blur suggested posts and remove ads, which makes the whole feed calmer and shorter.
